Mukurtu Library Fellow

Position Summary:

As a part of a larger team comprised of personnel from the Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) and the Libraries Systems Office at Washington State University, this position will support and extend the Mukurtu Shared platform initiatives including working directly with federal repositories, providing support for tribal partners, and implementing collaborative curation methods and workflows. The CDSC Co-Directors will oversee training, work priorities, and logistics, such as travel, professional development opportunities, and progress. Upon hire, the fellow will receive hands-on training at WSU in the first month followed by ongoing training during their two-year residency. Training will include an overview of the collaborative curation methods developed at WSU's CDSC including digital stewardship lifecycles, collaborative curation processes and workflows, use of Mukurtu CMS, implementation and use of the Mukurtu Shared Portal, and community engagement. The fellow will then work closely with partnering Native American communities to implement the collaborative curation methods. While in residence in Washington D.C., federal staff will provide direct management and training in local repository data systems, selection processes, metadata conventions, and institutional workflows. This position has a strong professional development component.

Start date is targeted for October 2018.



Required Qualifications:

*        Master's degree from an ALA-Accredited Library and Information Studies program at date of hire or relevant professional or cultural experience with Native American communities;

*        Experience managing library or archival collections, procedures, digitization workflows and content management systems;

*        Familiarity with current theories and trends in digital library initiatives, digital curation, and ethical curation practices;

*        Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, problem-solving and planning skills;

*        Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues;

*        Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities.



Preferred Qualifications:

*        Professional or cultural experience with Native American communities;

*        Experience with reviewing and creating metadata;

*        Experience providing training for diverse communities;

*        Experience with access and privacy issues related to inclusion and diversity;

*        Willingness to participate in an open-source community.

Position Summary:

                * Demonstrated experience using version control (e.g., Git);

                * Experience with access, privacy and security issues;

                * Willingness to participate in an open-source community;

                * Willingness to work in an agile-development team environment, assist in expanding the open source community of developers, and be flexible.
