The University of Virginia Library is seeking a new Software Developer to to work with an established team on the Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC) project. The Software Developer will continue designing and implementing a web application and back-end server for maintaining data describing archival resources using SQL and PHP. The Software Developer will also have opportunities to research and develop name entity matching, social network analysis and visualizations, and to work with other database technologies such as Elastic Search and Neo4J. 

A Bachelor's Degree is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline is preferred. At least 8 years of relevant experience may considered in lieu of a degree. At least one year of work experience in an Object-oriented programming language (PHP, Java C++ Ruby or similar), SQL, and web application development is required. Knowledge of object-oriented programming and relational database design is essential. The ability to communicate professionally, both orally and written, as well as work in a team environment is imperative. Knowledge of Linux/Unix development environments and repository control systems is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with LAMP/LAPP development, with a focus on object-oriented client-server models. Working experience with text mining, natural language processing, or named-entity recognition applications is preferred. Familiarity with library or archive metadata (EAD, EAC-CPF, MARC) XML processing techniques is highly desirable. Applicants with experience with Linux shell environments (CentOS, Ubuntu), Object Oriented PHP7, web development and git are strongly encouraged to apply.
