Subject: [External] [acrleads] Job posting: Head, Special Collections and University Archives at Iowa State University-Extended

This position announcement has been cross-posted.

The Iowa State University Library is seeking a dynamic and forward thinking visionary who can lead a growing and active Special Collections and University Archives Department. The Head of Special Collections and University Archives (Librarian III or IV) leads the department, provides direction and vision, develops strategic planning, and provides the support for staff and programs to flourish.

Manages, coordinates, and oversees the department’s public service and outreach programs, collection development and technical processing, digital stewardship, and collection access. Promotes archival issues, departmental activities, and collection holdings to campus and external constituencies, and works on integrating primary sources into the university curriculum.
Establishes and maintains on-going contact with faculty, researchers, students, administrators, and current and potential donors, and develops collaborative partnerships across campus and Iowa. Oversees selection and appraisal of rare books, manuscripts, and university archives collections.
Continuously assesses and evaluates programs, services, policies, and processes of the department. Works collaboratively with other library units and administration on digital initiatives, preservation, grants, development efforts, and public engagement. Participates in the divisional management team, and library-wide planning and discussions; serves on library and university committees.

ISU students, staff, and faculty strive to overcome historical and divisive biases in our society. Library staff must embrace an environment of inclusion that moves beyond simple tolerance to recognizing the richness in individual identities of people, and diverse perspectives.
