Subject: Yale University Library joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome Yale University Library as its newest associate member.

With a digital preservation program in progress since 2013, the Library has a large volume of digital assets to preserve and an active community of stakeholders who are invested in their long-term preservation.
The Library team is currently working to make emulation and software preservation 'business as usual' activities in which everyone doing digital preservation can easily participate, as well as considering plans to fund and grow future activities around research data preservation, and  managing challenges with automating preservation and maintaining access to research data.

"The DPC is a welcoming, productive and world-leading community of digital preservation practitioners that we are excited to become part of," says Euan Cochrane, Digital Preservation Manager for Yale University Library. "We look forward to participating in this community, receiving early access to member-only resources, webinars and briefing days."

"The DPC is committed to supporting the international digital preservation community for the development of effective practices and highly skilled workforces wherever they are in the world," says William Kilbride, Executive Director of the DPC. "So I am delighted that Yale University Library has chosen to connect with the DPC and strengthen our partnership with the academic community in the USA."

The not-for-profit DPC is an international advocate for digital preservation, helping members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.

Subject: ACH seeks bids to host 2021 conference

Dear Colleagues,

Coming off a successful conference in Pittsburgh in July, the ACH Executive Council now invites proposals to host the 2021 ACH Conference<http://ach2021.ach.org/>.

The ACH Conference is the biennial conference of the Association for Computers and the Humanities, the US-based member organization of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO). The ACH Conference aims to provide a forum for conversations that accommodate an expansive definition of digital humanities in a broad array of subject areas, methods, and communities of practice. The event ran every other year from 1973-2005 as the ICCH/ACH Conference, and was reborn in 2019.

The ACH welcomes proposals from regional organizations or institutions within the United States and outlying areas. This includes any group ranging from emerging communities and new partnerships to those who have been active for a long time and have organized regional conferences. ACH is interested in supporting hosts and groups for whom organizing the conference would build on previous regional DH activities and/or bolster growing DH centers, projects, communities, and programs. ACH emphasizes that bids do not need to replicate the structure of previous conferences, and welcomes locally informed and creative programming.

Please note the lead applicant must be a member of ACH at the time of submission.

The bid timeline:

  *   Expressions of interest – September 23 (exactly one month from today)
  *   Submissions of bids to host – December 6
  *   Selection of bidders – January 2020

More details, such as about committee organizational structure for conference planning and the requirements for expressions of interest, may be found here: http://ach2021.ach.org/.
