The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) welcomes the Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet) this week, as they become the Coalition’s 95th member.

AARNet is the architect, builder and operator of network infrastructure and an expanding portfolio of products and services, designed to meet the needs of over two million users in the research and education sector in Australia.

“We are keen to improve digital preservation literacy within our company, across member institutions, and more broadly within Australia’s research, education and cultural heritage domains,” explains Adam Bell, Cultural Outreach Manager for AARNet.
“We hope to benefit from the DPC’s guidance and education in this area, as we invest in technologies and services and increase engagement with organizations with a digital preservation responsibility.”

Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC Board and Head of Data Division for UKRI-STFC welcomed the news saying: “AARNet does important work in supporting digital preservation in the academic and research sectors in Australia and we are very pleased to welcome them to the Coalition.”

“They join an active and dynamic group of DPC members in Australasia with whom we are delighted to be connected. We look forward to working with them, sharing experiences and expanding our capacity to take on this international challenge of digital preservation.”

“This new membership comes at a time when the DPC is greatly enhancing its impact around the world. We recognize that digital preservation as a global challenge and are seeking to build a coalition which is scaled to the challenge.”

The not-for-profit DPC is an international advocate for digital preservation, helping members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
