Hello Colleagues,

The following is modified text from CLIR/DLF’s similar statement as it regards NDSA DigiPres.

The DigiPres Planning Committee hopes that you and your families are staying healthy and safe during these unusual times. We write with some updates regarding planning for the 2020 NDSA Digital Preservation meeting.

Our current intention is to hold NDSA DigiPres 2020 as scheduled in Baltimore this November. CLIR/DLF and the DigiPres Planning Committee are monitoring the science and current CDC guidelines about COVID-19 and, at this point, it appears that restrictions on large gatherings will be in effect at least through late spring. If these measures have the intended effect of containing the virus and “flattening the curve” so that the situation improves over the summer, we are optimistic that we’ll be able to proceed with DigiPres as planned this fall.

We’ll be in ongoing communication with you over the coming months, and we hope you’ll be in communication with us, too. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome, reach us at [log in to unmask] or email me ([log in to unmask]) or vice chair Tricia Patterson ([log in to unmask]). Please get in touch if you have questions, concerns, or ideas for new ways we could energize our community for mutual support.

We know that many of you may be adjusting to working from home, caring for family members, or concerned about changes in your income, healthcare, or other personal assets, not to mention feeling the weight of the uncertainty each day brings. We know it may be challenging to think ahead to a conference taking place in November. On our end, the planning must continue to be sure we are ready for a great event later this year, but in watching this unfolding situation, we are committed to being as flexible with our deadlines as possible. To that end, we are extending the Call for Proposals deadline for all of our events by two weeks, to Monday, May 11.

We also want to reassure all of you that, if circumstances change so that DigiPres cannot be safely held in person as planned, we will be in touch as early as we can.

We wish you and your families safety and health, and, as always and especially in times like these, we are grateful for the support and solidarity of DLF/CLIR and the NDSA communities.

Kindly,

Courtney
