May Call: Controlled Vocabularies

Our next virtual Museums Cohort call takes place on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 11am PT / 2pm ET.

This month, Hanna Bertoldi, Collections Database Coordinator at the University of Notre Dame's Snite Museum of Art, will lead a brief demonstration of her workflow for contributing to Getty's controlled vocabularies as part of her work on the Mellon Foundation-funded MARBLE discovery platform at Notre Dame. Following this demonstration, we'll have an open discussion on our experiences with controlled vocabularies including processes we use or barriers we encounter that prevent the use of controlled vocabularies.

Before the meeting, you may want to read Bertoldi's guide for getting started with contributing to Getty or her short blog post on controlled vocabularies and how this work relates to the MARBLE project.

Looking Back / Looking Ahead

Last month: In April, we were fortunate to hear an enlightening presentation from Kraig Binkowski of Yale's Center for British Art on creating bibliographic citations for works of art from the Center's collection. If you missed the presentation, we have a recording available on CLIR/DLF's YouTube channel.

Next month: In June, we plan to welcome Lotus Norton-Wisla, Digital and Community Outreach Archivist at Washington State University's Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) to discuss the exciting projects they work on there.
