Princeton University Library (PUL) seeks an imaginative leader who will serve as Director of Discovery and Resource Sharing Initiatives (DDRSI). The DDRSI oversees resource discovery and sharing, and manages the existing BorrowDirect service, and serves as the project manager and negotiator for initiatives that promise positive impacts on the shared use of IPLC collections in any format.

Additionally, the DDRSI works on emerging sharing strategies, including controlled digital lending, Open Access, and shared digital collections and infrastructure. They liaise as appropriate with key stakeholder and affinity groups to ensure that initiatives are aligned with the priorities of the IPLC. This role requires a skillful and strategic leader who understands the contemporary research collections landscape and technical infrastructure in all its complexity. The depth of experience required is roughly comparable to that of an Associate University Librarian at one of the IPLC libraries. While the incumbent administratively reports to the University Librarian at PUL, the Chair of the IPLC, with the support of the Executive Committee, directs the work of the DDRSI. This position works remotely and on-site on behalf of all 13 IPLC member libraries.

Responsibilities:

Reports to the Chair of the IPLC Directors in relation to strategic priorities; Leads relevant projects and initiatives, including analysis of data about use, user behavior and the development of better tools to support that analysis; Guides enhancements to discovery and resource sharing initiatives and coordinates development efforts; Drafts initiative memos for proposed projects/initiatives which outlines the objectives, operational and financial terms, rights and obligations of the Members, duration of the project/initiative, and any other information deemed appropriate; Leads development of collaborative sharing policies; Together with other IPLC staff, serves as the public face of the IPLC to relevant communities; Monitors and informs IPLC of issues, trends and best practices in resource sharing and management, particularly on a consortial or group level, and contributes to that dialogue on behalf of the Confederation and makes recommendations.

Essential Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science or a postgraduate degree in a related field. Ten years of progressively responsible experience, five of which should be in a leadership role in a research library or similar institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated success in a resource discovery/sharing role, and management experience in a research library, library consortium, or information resource vendor environment. Knowledge of contemporary practices and trends for managing and sharing collections in research libraries. Demonstrated experience in project management, particularly in leading teams of people from diverse organizational units and/or across institutions. Demonstrated aptitude for developing functional requirements, evaluating software platforms to meet specifications, system migration support, general knowledge of information technology infrastructures, and the ability to liaise as needed with IT staff. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a complex and diverse higher education setting.
