Our next virtual DLF Museums Cohort call takes place on
Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 2pm ET / 11am PT.

This month we're joined by Lotus Norton-Wisla, Digital and Community Outreach Archivist at the Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) of Washington State University. Norton-Wisla will discuss the work done at the CDSC, with a particular focus on the Sustainable Heritage Network, an online platform that brings together communities, institutions, and professionals to support each other by sharing knowledge, educational resources, and technology necessary for the responsible digitization and preservation of cultural heritage aimed specifically at the needs of tribal archivists, librarians, and museum specialists.

We Want to Hear from You!

What should #DLFmuseums do next? Since 2015, the DLF Museums Cohort has consisted of a group of cultural and arts organizations who are working with other DLF members across disciplinary and institutional boundaries to build skills, share ideas, strengthen digital engagement and collections, and advance technological initiatives in service of their common mission.

Begun as an exclusive group of institutions with generous support from the Kress Foundation, since 2019 the DLF Museums Cohort has been open to all, regardless of institutional membership or affiliation, to discuss questions that are particular to museums and museum libraries and to tackle topics that resonate across museums, archives, and libraries.

In order to better serve the evolving needs of the Museums Cohort constituency, we want to hear from you! Whether you're a regular or occasional member or you're curious about the group, please respond to this four-question survey by July 17 to give us an idea of how the DLF Museums Cohort may better serve you. We'll discuss the survey results and how we can implement your ideas for the Museums Cohort during our July 22 call.

Looking Back / Looking Ahead

Last month: In May, Hanna Bertoldi, Collections Database Coordinator at the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, led a brief demonstration of workflows for contributing to Getty's controlled vocabularies. This demo was followed by a wider group discussion on our experiences with controlled vocabularies. If you missed the conversation, you can read shared notes from the meeting and catch up with the recording on CLIR/DLF's YouTube channel.

Next month: We'll reconvene at our July meeting to discuss the responses to the above-mentioned survey and the future direction of the Museums Cohort. Make sure to respond by July 17 to provide guidance on how this group can best meet your needs.
