The IIIF Consortium is pleased to announce the release of version 3.0 of the Image and Presentation APIs. Among the many improvements in this major update, version 3.0 enables support of audio and visual materials playback and annotation, giving adopters the ability to work with time-based media in addition to static resources.

You can view the specifications on our site:

Presentation API 3.0 (see what’s new in the change-log)

Many thanks to the Editorial Committee, staff at IIIF Consortium member institutions, and the community at large for suggesting improvements along the way to this critical milestone. Additional thanks to those who served on the Technical Review Committee on behalf of Consortium member institutions to formalize the spec updates.

For those unfamiliar, IIIF is an open, community-driven software system for delivering high quality, attributed digital objects (such as images and A/V files) online at large scale, and is used by hundreds of universities, museums, libraries, and others around the world.
