August Call: The British Museum's Transition to a New Library Management System
|
Our next virtual DLF Museums Cohort call takes place on
Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 2pm ET/11am PT.
We're very excited for this month's presentation from our colleagues across the pond at the British Museum Library, Ashley Kelleher and Jessica Williams.
Kelleher and Williams will discuss the library's launch of their
new online catalog.
|
|
Ashley Kelleher is Digital Projects and Systems Librarian at the British Museum and recently helped to deliver Koha as the museum’s first new library
systems solution in over 20 years. Previously, she worked at the UK Crafts Council managing their collections records, and at Cornell Tech to start up the campus’ first asset management system. She studied information science and history of art and design
at Pratt Institute. She also lives on Twitter (@amkelleher1).
|
Jessica Williams is IT Project Manager at the British Museum and supported the library team in replacing their Library Management System with Koha.
As a Classics graduate, working at the museum allows her to combine her experience in IT with her education in classical history, which is both exciting and rewarding. Before joining the museum, Jessica worked at Canon Europe Ltd., working predominately on
a strategic program to replace their content management and digital asset management systems.

Join the New Museums Cohort Listserv!
To meet the evolving needs of DLF's Museums Cohort and to encourage and foster open dialogue and collaboration between group participants, we've created
an
open listserv for current DLF Museums Cohort members, anyone with museum interests, and those who engage in public or academic-based museum
projects!
We'll still be distributing newsletters (like the one you're currently reading) ahead of our monthly meetings, but the new listserv allows for anyone
subscribed to post news, jobs, or questions for the DLF Museums Cohort community.

Looking Back / Looking Ahead
Last month: During July's meeting, we discussed the results
of our recent communications survey and concluded that the addition of a listserv would be beneficial to the Cohort. We also discussed ideas for potential future directions for the cohort. To catch up on the discussion, read our
shared notes from the meeting.
Next month:
What are you currently working on? Do you have a finished project you'd like to promote, or are you stuck on a problem with a current project and could use some feedback from
other practitioners? Based on conversation at our July meeting, we'll be switching things up by alternating more formal presentations during our monthly calls with an informal "salon" format where attendees will have the opportunity for brief share-outs and
discussion. More information to follow at our August meeting.

Community Voting Open Through August 31
|
Help shape this year’s virtual
DLF Forum!
Community voting on proposals is open now through Monday, August 31.
Check out what’s been submitted to each conference and cast your vote(s) here:
https://voting.diglib.org
You may vote once each for as many different proposals as you’d like. Community voting informs the program for each event, but please note that results
do not definitively determine a proposal’s inclusion or exclusion from the conference program.
We hope you’ll be able to join us for this year’s DLF Forum and affiliated events online in November. Registration will open this fall along with the
sharing of the full event programs. Learn more about the Forum and affiliated events at
https://forum2020.diglib.org/.
