We used a drag and drop Box widget for several years, embedded in Confluence. It was kept secure mainly through obscurity and file type restrictions. Now that we've been priced out of Box, I've set up a Google Form that will sync an image or pdf into a specific Google Drive folder. This one requires an institutional login, making it fairly secure but too limited for our needs. I've been meaning to build a simple form similar to what John Lolis is using, either in Drupal or Wordpress with password protection and mime-type limits. I've come to conclusion that simple is better for this purpose. IU does offer an encrypted transfer service that supports sensitive data, but it's too robust and clunky for our needs.

Subject: Re: [CODE4LIB] file transfer service recommendations?

We have a photo of the week submission page on our website, plus a somewhat
hidden password protected file upload page that we make available. It's
hosted completely in-house on top of a WordPress platform using the
Formidable forms plugin. We provide the password to the file upload page
for people like presenters who need to upload a large PowerPoint file. I
find that it's much more convenient than using a cloud based file upload
and sharing service.
