September 23: Museums Cohort Call

Hello everyone,

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it for our first open community share-outs call. The discussions on Wikidata reconciliation and best practices for migrating digitized rare books into a new DAMS were very enlightening. If you were unable to make the meeting, you can catch up on our shared notes here.

Additionally, I explained to the group yesterday that for this year’s virtual DLF Forum, DLF’s working groups are creating short videos and accompanying blog posts as a way to introduce themselves and the work our groups do to new and returning DLF Forum attendees. If you are interested in collaborating on the Museums Cohort video and blog with me, please contact me directly at [log in to unmask].

All groups have been given the following three prompts to respond to in their videos and blogs:

Even if you’re unable to work directly on the Museums Cohort’s materials for DLF Forum, please take a moment provide your answers to these prompts in yesterday’s meeting agenda. I plan to incorporate the group’s responses (anonymously) into our video and blog, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on any of the above prompts.

Our next monthly call takes place October 28th, 2 PM ET/11 AM PT. Our guest speaker will be announced in the October Museums Cohort newsletter.

Best,
Gayle

Hello all,

Check out the latest Museums Cohort newsletter below. At our next call on Wednesday, September 23 at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT we’ll have our first community share-out meeting. Sign up on the agenda with a project you’d like a share or a question to post to other meeting attendees, or just show up ready for open dialogue. To create a more comfortable conversation, this meeting will NOT be recorded.

“See” you all on Wednesday!

Best,

Gayle

Our next virtual DLF Museums Cohort call takes place on

Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 2pm ET/11am PT.

This month, the topic is up to you! We'll have the opportunity to promote completed projects, ask attendees questions that have been raised while working on current projects, or discuss any topic of interest to the DLF Museums community in an informal, "salon"-style setting. If you have a topic you'd like to make sure we discuss, you can sign up in advance on the meeting agenda (but don't worry, it's not required to attend).

Last month: In August, we welcomed Ashley Kelleher and Jessica Williams of the British Museum Library to discuss the library's transition to their first new library management system in over 20 years and the subsequent launch of the library's new online catalog. Miss the meeting? You can catch up on the conversation in our shared meeting notes and watch the presentation recording on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/kMkaoK45QGk.

Next month: In October, we'll hear from the New York Botanical Garden's Regina Vitiello and Rashad Bell about their work decolonizing the language of collection catalogs from the NYBG's Steere Herbarium and LuEster T. Mertz Library.
