With World Digital Preservation Day 2020<https://www.dpconline.org/events/world-digital-preservation-day> (WDPD2020) on 5th November fast approaching, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) invites all data creators, curators and consumers from around the world to contribute by sharing stories of their own digital preservation day!

With the theme Digits: for Good, WDPD2020 is an opportunity to connect the digital preservation community and celebrate the positive impact digital preservation has had in a year which has seen a sudden and global reliance on digital information and infrastructure.

"Our community has rallied together in a year where physically we have never been more isolated," says Sarah Middleton, Head of Advocacy and Community Engagement for the DPC. "World Digital Preservation Day is a great way of supporting each other by celebrating some incredible initiatives which have happened because of and in spite of the pandemic; showcasing how the data has been preserved - for good."

Organized by the DPC and supported by digital preservation networks around the globe, World Digital Preservation Day is open to participation across all sectors, from anyone interested in securing our digital legacy.

Some suggestions for contributions are as follows, although alternative activities are welcomed and encouraged:

  * Hold and publicize an event: With everyone meeting online these days, invite the digital preservation community around the world to join your event in celebration of WDPD2020! You could have a webinar, organize an online games-room, hold a hackathon, set up a Q&A with digital preservation experts in your organization... submit details to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday 23rd October and the details will be added to the DPC's 'What's On' section of the WDPD2020 page of the website, including URLs for your event.

Download the event pack<https://www.dpconline.org/events/world-digital-preservation-day/wdpd-event-pack> and WDPD2020 Logo<https://www.dpconline.org/events/world-digital-preservation-day/wdpd-logos> in your language and add it to related emails and communications for your event and publicize it using the #WDPD2020<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23wdpd2020> hashtag for greater visibility.

And do not miss the exciting culmination of the Digital Preservation Awards 2020<https://www.dpconline.org/events/digital-preservation-awards> which will be broadcast online in the run up to, and on World Digital Preservation Day! More details to follow very soon.

  * Share your Digits: For Good on Social Media: Take photos, make videos, share your Digits: For Good story or updates about your own digital preservation day using the social media platform of your choice. Can you persuade your organization to let you take over the corporate social media account for the day to talk about digital preservation? In the run up to WDPD2020, share who you think this year's Digital Preservation Awards winners will be? Just remember to use the hashtags #WDPD2020<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23wdpd2020> and #DPA2020<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23dpa2020>.

  * Blog about Digital Preservation: Write about your Digits: For Good on World Digital Preservation Day. If you have your own blog platform, write a post about digital preservation to share with your own followers! Or submit it to us by Friday 23rd October for inclusion on the DPC blog<https://www.dpconline.org/blog/idpd>. Guidelines for bloggers available here<https://www.dpconline.org/news/uncategorised/blogging-guidelines>.

  * Provide case studies for the 'Bit List' of Digitally Endangered Species: In the run-up to WDPD2020 examine the entries on Bit List of 'at risk' Digitally Endangered Species<https://www.dpconline.org/digipres/champion-digital-preservation/bit-list> and share case studies which demonstrate the efforts made to preserve these materials. Case study information to be submitted by Friday 23rd October.

WDPD2020 is just one of the ways the Digital Preservation Coalition helps raise awareness of the global strategic, cultural and technological issues which make up the digital preservation challenge. The Coalition also supports its international members through other advocacy activities, workforce development, capacity-building and partnership; helping members to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services and derive enduring value from their digital collections.
