We’re excited to introduce the DLF Digest, a new monthly round-up of upcoming DLF working group meetings, events, and news from DLF and our parent organization CLIR. Released at the beginning of each month,
the DLF Digest will take the place of our semi-regular DLF groups newsletters with the aim of keeping our working groups and the wider DLF community regularly informed of upcoming events, projects, and areas for potential collaboration. As always, don’t hesitate

In continuation of their series on skill-sharing and virtual learning experiences, the DLF Project Managers Steering Committee will host an online presentation by Caitlin Haynes, program coordinator
at the Smithsonian Transcription Center.
About the Smithsonian Transcription Center: Created in 2013, the Transcription Center (TC) features digitized historical collections from across the Smithsonian’s museums and invites the public
to help in making these materials more accessible, readable, and findable through collaborative transcription and review. Thanks to the hard work of colleagues from across the Smithsonian Institution and over 50,000 worldwide digital volunteers, more than
850,000 pages of diaries, field notes, ephemera, scientific specimen cards, and more have been fully transcribed. Management of the Transcription Center’s internal and external communities, web platform, digital projects, technical development, and outreach
initiatives is led by two full-time staff members—the TC program coordinator and TC community coordinator—alongside one external developer. Through agile project management, strategic campaigns, and a focus on adaptability, the TC team successfully sustains
and furthers platform engagement. This presentation will explore the TC staff’s approach to program and community management and the ways in which strategic initiatives have evolved to meet the needs of new users during the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak.

Following an engaging first
joint meeting in April, Research Libraries
UK’s Digital Scholarship Network (DSN) and DLF’s Data & Digital Scholarship (DDS) working group will convene again for an interactive and friendly session exploring the tangible ways through which skills can be shared across the transatlantic research library
community in relation to digital scholarship.
This second joint meeting will provide a brief overview of the results of the
Expression of Interest survey released at the
first meeting along with opportunities for further collaboration between DLF DDS and DSN around skills. You
do not need to have attended the April 26th meeting or to have completed the EoI survey to attend this second meeting, though you are welcome to complete the survey and read our
summary of April's meeting ahead of July’s meeting.
