Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a collaborative and user-centered Assistant/Associate Professor, Data Services Coordinator. This newly envisioned tenure-track position will lead the University Libraries’ Research Data Services initiative, working to develop interdisciplinary services in data analysis and visualization, and expand upon existing efforts in GIS, data management, and data literacy instruction. The Data Services Coordinator will collaborate with library colleagues, teaching and research faculty, and students from across campus. This position will report to the Head of the DeLaMare Science & Engineering Library.  

 

This position emphasizes engaging instruction, in-depth research support for both faculty and students, and active engagement in campus outreach activities to promote the Libraries and build partnerships. The Libraries values excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong service orientation, a collaborative approach to meeting user needs, and above all, a willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies. This is a tenure-track faculty position that requires scholarly activity and publication, and service on professional and university committees. The ideal candidate will:


Contribute to assessing campus needs and developing data services and educational opportunities to support researchers at all levels.


Provide faculty and student consultations and workshops.


Proactively collaborate with faculty to meet teaching and research objectives and support interdisciplinary initiatives across academic units that require expertise in data literacy and services.


Collaborate with library colleagues, particularly subject librarians and others working on data- intensive projects and initiatives.


Maintain familiarity with recent trends in data services in academic libraries.


Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse communities and cultures.


Participate in outreach, assessment, and instructional initiatives in the DeLaMare Library.


Actively engage in professional development, scholarship, and service in areas of relevant expertise in order to meet expectations for tenure and promotion.


 

Required Qualifications


A terminal degree in a data-intensive discipline (e.g., math, psychology, sociology, information studies) or an ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent


One year of experience in an instruction setting or a library


Experience with one or more statistical or computational tools (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata, Python, GIS)


Desire and willingness to further develop skills on the job through a variety of professional development opportunities


Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion


 

Preferred Qualifications


Experience with one or more data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI)


Background in and/or familiarity with sources, issues, and trends in data services


Experience collaborating with faculty and researchers


Experience planning and delivering innovative services or providing data literacy instruction


Familiarity with data management requirements of funding agencies.


 

Salary & Benefits

Salary minimum is $65,000. This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Appointment may be at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on experience, record of scholarship, service and achievement. Competitive benefits package includes 24 vacation days plus state and federal holidays per year and tuition benefits for self and family. No state income tax.
