The Systems Librarian provides broad support, including first-line technical support and day-to-day administration, for all aspects of library systems, software, and technology, such as the integrated library system (currently Innovative Interfaces Sierra), resource sharing (currently Connect NY, Tipasa and RapidILL), openURL link resolver and knowledge base (currently Ex Libris 360 Link and 360 Core), and web services and applications (Springshare LibGuides CMS, LibCal, LibWizard and LibInsight, as well as a WordPress blog). Primary duties include managing, configuring, maintaining, implementing, and troubleshooting all systems and the library's website to ensure optimal performance, usability and accessibility. This position also collaborates to facilitate consistent discovery and access to library resources across all platforms and formats and acts as the primary liaison with technology vendors and the campus IT department. Additionally, this position is expected to provide research and input on new technology systems, software, and equipment to enhance the operation and services of the library. The Systems Librarian participates with other librarians in providing general reference services and provides specialized reference, instruction and collection development for students and faculty in assigned departments and programs of computer science, information systems, and mathematics.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job duties specific to this position:

SYSTEMS

* Research, evaluate, recommend, test, and implement new technologies
* Liaise with library vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with access, display or management of resources provided by their systems
* Maintain knowledge of, and engage in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends in emerging technologies, digital tools, and software solutions
* Provide systems support for all library systems, software, and technology
* Coordinate training in the use of library systems, both through the creation of clear documentation and through hands-on workshops
* Oversees the planning, use, training and maintenance of ILS and other library applications
* Develops tools to enhance ILS and other applications
* Monitors, analyzes and reports usage of the Library systems
* Provide day-to-day support for existing website including development, usability, accessibility, testing, security, and troubleshooting
* Focus on integrating contemporary design, UX principles, and accessibility standards
* Serve as a liaison to the Information Technology department and other academic departments
* Attend meetings, participate in special projects and serve on committees relating to the library, the College, and consortia

RESEARCH SERVICES

* Provides specialized reference services to faculty and students in the assigned subject areas through a variety of formats such as in-person, online, email and research consultation appointments
* As a subject bibliographer, builds an ongoing understanding of the assigned disciplines of study and their relevant library resources  
* Develops a working reference collection and research tools, LibGuides, and video tutorials, that best fit the research needs of students and faculty in the assigned subject areas
* Scholarly Communication: Assists faculty in assigned subject areas in their general understanding of all manner of research and publication, from basic copyright guidelines, to formal peer review, new licensing arrangements, to the adoption of new and open models for textbooks, for peer review, and scholarly dissemination

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

* In assigned subject areas, in concert with faculty department liaisons, develops print and digital collections to serve undergraduate majors and minors and graduate programs, reviews and evaluates collections for withdrawal, replacement, or repair
* In conjunction with the other librarians, defines the library's general collection policies, goals, and priorities.

COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH

* For assigned subject areas prepares statistical reports and evaluations of collections, instruction, and usage for academic program evaluations and accreditation reviews

COMMITTEES

* Serves on and chairs the Library Web Committee
* Serves on library, faculty senate, and college committees and task forces as needed

PROFESSIONAL

* Demonstrates and models the responsibilities and characteristics of an academic librarian in accordance with the Le Moyne College Handbook for Academic Librarians
* Maintains awareness of emerging topics in pedagogy, information resources in assigned areas, librarianship and archives management through the literature and professional organizations
* Contributes to library and college wide initiatives by serving, as possible, on library, campus, inter-institutional committees such as ConnectNY or CLRC (Central NY Library Resources Council)
* Participates in Library strategic planning initiatives, and cooperates closely with other library units
* In conjunction with the other librarians, develops, evaluates, and reviews library policies and procedures, and prepares assessment data and reports, including annual report

Requirements:

EDUCATION: Master's degree in an American Library Association accredited program in Library and Information Science. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information design, network technology or equivalent experience is preferred.

PREREQUISITES:

* 3-5 years of experience required with a strong service component, preferably in an academic library
* Experience with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards for web design, as well as responsive, universal, and device-agnostic web design principles and practices
* Experience with HTML/CSS and knowledge of front-end frameworks and technologies such as JavaScript libraries
* Excellent customer service skills
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated time management and organization skills
