Good afternoon. This is a reminder that the ALA Core Metadata Interest group is seeking presenters for its Core Interest Group Week program. The deadline for proposals is Friday, January 14, 2022.

The ALA Core Metadata Interest Group seeks speakers to present at its meeting during the ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week, held from March 7-11, 2022.

Accessible and inclusive metadata and cataloging principles can ensure that online content is free of barriers for the broadest audience possible. Visual, auditory, speech, physical, cognitive, and/or neurological limitations may affect how users perceive and access your metadata and decrease their ability to find the information they need. Unless there is metadata denoting that a video is closed captioned, for example, this feature will go undiscovered. Metadata that reduces barriers to information is crucial to ensuring that accessible content is findable for people with disabilities, and its benefits can extend to the larger audience. Have you implemented accessibility metadata or added accessible fields to your MARC records to better suit a broader audience? Are you experimenting with new approaches to metadata accessibility? If so, we want to hear from you! Consider submitting your proposal for a 15 minute presentation at the Core Metadata Interest Group session, followed by discussion.
