Section Head, Libraries Systems

The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks an innovative, dynamic, service–oriented information professional for the full-time position of Section Head, Libraries Systems at the rank of General Librarian, Assistant Librarian, or Associate Librarian to begin July 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. This position normally has a two-year probationary period. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
·         A Master’s degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution;
·         Demonstrated experience as system administrator for library systems, including Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and other related applications;
·         Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues, and trends in academic libraries and/or library technologies;
·         Demonstrated knowledge of the interoperability of library systems;
·         Demonstrated strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem resolution skills;
·         Demonstrated management, leadership, or supervisory experience;
·         Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload in a timely and effective manner;
·         Effective oral and written communication skills;
·         Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills;
·         Experience cultivating collaborative working relationships with staff, library colleagues, faculty, students, campus partners, and external partners.

Candidates with the following additional qualifications will be preferred:
·         An undergraduate or graduate degree in a computer-related discipline;
·         Experience managing library systems in an academic/large library or within the ILS industry;
·         Ex Libris certified administrator Alma/Primo/Primo VE



Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Open Scholarship and Systems, the Section Head, Libraries Systems leads the systems team in the department of Libraries Systems. The systems team is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and interfacing various libraries systems, including Alma, Primo VE, EZProxy, Relais, meeScan, Juno Room Booking System, Lean Library, HoldIT, ComputeIT, NovelBranch, PaperCut, SpringShare’s products, etc. A more detailed position description is available at: http://libguides.lib.umanitoba.ca/jobs
