The Authenticity Project is a partnership program between HBCU Library Alliance and CLIR’s Digital Library Federation (DLF) that will provide mentoring, learning, and leadership opportunities for 30 early- to mid-career library staff from HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) in the United States, along with opportunities to build more genuine exchange and authentic connections among participants from HBCUs and Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs).

About Fellows 

Fellows receive: 

• Full travel, lodging, and registration expenses for the next DLF Forum conference and Learn@DLF workshops, along with special opportunities to present and share.  
• Facilitated mentoring and networking program.
• Access to online communities with opportunities for networking.

 

Who’s eligible: 

• Early- to mid-career librarians, archivists, or other library workers currently working at HBCUs, interested in advancing their knowledge, skills, and professional connections in digital library work.
• Fellows commit to participating throughout the month-long program and will be asked to indicate a preference between the dates of the Cohort 1 or Cohort 2 when applying.

About Mentors

Mentors receive: 

• Mentorship training, including how to have crucial conversations. 
• An opportunity to build relationships with their mentee and co-mentor. 
• Connection to a supportive community of mentors from a variety of organizations, locations, and backgrounds. 
• $750 stipend in acknowledgment of your time and commitment to the program. 

 

Who’s eligible: 

• Those willing to share their expertise, and are committed to promoting positive, systemic change in the library field, including by broadening career pathways and professional advancement for HBCU library staff. 
• Library staff with a background as a digital library professional
• Library staff who have experience working at a Predominantly White Institution and/or HBCU. 
• Note that letters of support from supervisors are encouraged but not required.
• While experience in mentoring is helpful, it is not required.Your background as a digital library professional and a willingness to learn from our facilitator team is most important!
