As a member of the Library Collections Group and under the direction of the
Assistant Director for Discovery Services, the Digital Collections
Coordinator contributes to the continued operation of a library-wide
digitization program with a focus on activities that create and enhance
access to digital surrogates of the Library’s Distinctive Collections.
This position assists with the management of the in-house digitization lab,
including overseeing the work of student employees, and coordinates
outsourced digitization. This position also contributes to other key
aspects of the digital collections program, including metadata creation,
file management, and other digital preservation activities as assigned.

This position contributes to the academic mission and strategic goals of
the College by furthering the goal of broad digital access to the Library’s
Distinctive Collections.

*Position Responsibilities:*

   -

   Coordinate activities around the digitization of materials from
   Archives, Special Collections and general collections based on current
   archival and conservation practices.
   -

   Assist in the supervision of a team of student staff in digitization and
   basic conservation/book repair activities.
   -

   Create metadata to describe digital objects in the archives management
   system and the digital repositories. Assist with ingesting materials to
   repositories.
   -

   Coordinate digitization and conservation outsourcing with trusted
   vendors.
   -

   Contribute to digital preservation planning and perform specific digital
   preservation tasks as assigned.

   Assist in the supervision of student workers.

*Basic Qualifications:*

   -

   Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience

*Skills and Abilities:*

   -

   Experience with digitization workflows, equipment and procedures.
   -

   Knowledge of metadata best practices for archives and libraries.
   -

   Knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, physical conservation methods
   and treatments, including basic book repair, pamphlet binding and box
   making.
   -

   Experience or training in the handling of rare and fragile paper-based
   materials.
   -

   Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a
   team.
   -

   Excellent oral and written communication skills.
   -

   Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and an
   ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student
   population.
   -

   Excellent organization skills and effectiveness in balancing multiple
   assignments/projects.
