The ALA Core Metadata Interest Group seeks speakers to present at its meeting during the ALA Core Virtual Interest Group Week. The Metadata Interest Group meeting will take place on Thursday, March 9, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 am Central Time.

As more information institutions seek to implement inclusive metadata practices, there is an increasing need for practical examples of how this work is being done in library and archival collections. Please share your experience finding and remediating harmful language or creating more inclusive metadata in catalog records, digital collection records, finding aids, or other descriptions.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  * Description audit on harmful and biased language in existing metadata
  *   Guidelines for inclusive description
  * Best practices for describing materials by and about marginalized groups of people

Please submit your proposal by emailing the Interest Group’s Programming Co-chairs, Joan Wang and Elisa Naquin by Friday, January 27, 2023. The presenters will be notified of decisions by Friday, February 3rd.

Your proposal should include the following:

The name, email, job title and affiliated institution of the presenter(s), the title of the presentation, and an abstract not to exceed 300 words.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joan Wang ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) or Elisa Naquin ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>), Core MIG Programming Co-Chairs.
