Adding to a range of other translated resources, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to share a German translation of Core requirements for a digital preservation system, part of the popular Procurement Toolkit.

The ten core requirements offer a structure for describing preservation system requirements in a standardized manner and may be used to organize and communicate requirements clearly, without reinventing the wheel.

Jens Ludwig is Scientific Officer for the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) which provided the German translation. He says: “Translating most of the requirements was just useful for us as part of working on our own requirements. We then deceided to give something back to the community and translate also the rest of the document .”

The Procurement Toolkit aims to provide advice on how to get the best result possible out of a procurement process. It has been designed primarily for DPC Members who are procuring services, but it will also provide benefits to DPC Supporters and other vendors by improving communication, clarity and efficiency throughout a procurement.

Die Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) freut sich, mit Kernanforderungen für ein digitales Langzeitarchivierungssystem die deutsche Übersetzung der Core requirements for a digital preservation system anbieten zu können. Das Dokument führt die Reihe übersetzter Materialien fort und ist Teil des populären Werkzeugkastens Beschaffungen.

Die zehn Kernanforderungen bieten einen Struktur, um Anforderungen an Langzeitarchivierungssysteme in standardisierter Weise zu beschreiben und klar zu kommunizieren, ohne das Rad neu zu erfinden.

Jens Ludwig ist Referent des Bundesamtes für die Sicherheit der nuklearen Entsorgung (BASE), das die deutsche Übersetzung erstellt hat. Er erläuterte: “Für uns war die Übersetzung eines Großteils der Anforderungen zuerst nur ein Zwischenschritt der Arbeit an unseren eigenen Anforderungen. Die Übersetzung zu vervollständigen, war dann ein naheliegender Schritt, um der Fachgemeinschaft etwas zurückzugeben.”

Der Werkzeugkasten Beschaffung soll dabei helfen, das bestmögliche Ergebnis in einem Beschaffungsprozess zu erreichen. Er wurde vorrangig für DPC-Mitglieder entwickelt, die Dienstleistungen im Bereich der Langzeitarchivierung beschaffen wollen. Aber auch für DPC-Unterstützer und Anbieter wird er nützlich sein, indem er die Kommunikation, Klarheit und Effizienz im Beschaffungsprozess verbessert.
