My esteemed lsitmates, I've been volleying with a friend which is safer: buying online like Amazon with an Amazon Gift card purchased at Walmart or a grocery store or paying with your bank's major credit card? If you buy on Amazon with a gift card then miscreants can only drain the balance of that gift card (e.g. $50). Whereas, yoru major credit card is exposed to the height of your credit limit. My bank contacts me wherever there are "unusual" purchases - ex. large items like $1,000 or in places I don't geographically purchase items at. I've also heard that criminals can drain your gift card at point of purchase so as you're standing inline at Walmart to buy the card they have boots on the ground who wipe your balance clean like they can when you're pumping gas at some stations. Sam's and Costco have employees looking for that so I feel like I'm better protected but maybe that's just a false sense of security? I'd so appreciate hearing from anyone on the list with security expertise. Thank you. Charles. Charlotte County Public Library
