Digital Collections & Metadata Coordinator Job no: 527290 Work type: Staff Location: San José Categories: Unit 9 - CSUEU - Technical Support Services, Probationary, Full Time, Library, Telecommute eligible (work onsite as scheduled and/or as requested and telecommute as scheduled) Job Summary The Digital Collections and Metadata Coordinator works collaboratively with colleagues at SJSU Library and within the California State University system to catalog and create metadata for digital and physical library collections and artifacts in a variety of platforms. This position is part of the Digital Scholarship Services unit and receives work direction from the Digital Scholarship Librarian and reports to the Director of User Experience as their Appropriate Administrator. This position specializes in creating, maintaining, and enhancing metadata for complex and varied digital media types. Format types include audio, video, and 3D assets; virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) objects and programs; born-digital and digitized documents; and other digital objects. The Digital Collections and Metadata Coordinator identifies and implements novel solutions for new and emerging format types, working closely with colleagues to establish policies and practices that enhance discoverability, interoperability, and preservation of the library’s digital materials. The Digital Collections and Metadata Coordinator creates metadata that is inclusive, culturally accurate, and supports campus EDI principles while adhering to national standards and local policies and procedures, in compliance with the policies and best practices set forth by CSU-wide ULMS governance. The Digital Collections and Metadata Coordinator is encouraged to participate in professional organizations, initiatives, and discussions that improve digital collection practices and further inclusive, representative metadata practices. The Digital Collections and Metadata Coordinator develops, maintains, and shares expertise on cataloging and metadata platforms. Currently this includes the library’s ILS, Alma; Digital Collections platform, Islandora; and Institutional Repository, Digital Commons. This position is encouraged to participate in and lead library, CSU, State, and National level committees on cataloging, metadata, and discovery practices for digital collections and formats.
