Summary of Job Duties:
The Archivist, assigned to the UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture, is responsible for processing archival collections, assisting patrons, and working collaboratively on archival projects. The person holding this position will participate in ArchivesSpace and other working group discussions. Assistance with grant writing and implementation is an expectation, along with some project management. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience
A Master's degree in a field related to archives work;
At least two (2) years of relevant experience;
The ability to lift a 40-pound box.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Arrange and make available archival collections using professional standards;
Work with a variety of archive formats, including paper, photographs, multimedia, and born-digital;
Preserve records, documents, and objects according to national standards;
Identify and assist in coordinating grant opportunities related to CAHC collections;
Provide patron assistance through weekly reference shifts in the research room, with an occasional Saturday shift an expectation;
Coordinate reference desk schedules and archival supply ordering;
Answer research requests via email, phone calls, and regular mail;
Participate in professional development opportunities such as conference attendance, presentations, and workshops;
Collaborate to promote CAHC initiatives and services through tours, presentations, virtual exhibits, social media, and other appropriate means;
Supervise interns, student workers, and graduate assistants on special projects in coordination with the Assistant Director;
Monitor, review, identifies, and report processing policies and procedures for clarity and adoption in collaboration with other archivists;
Identify manuscript-processing priorities in collaboration with other archivists and CAHC administration;
Assist in identifying research projects based on archival collections for faculty, staff, and students;
Participates in departmental strategic and topical planning;
Represent the CAHC on a variety of collaborative projects and programs inside and outside the department;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and use of basic manuscript processing techniques, such as “More Product, Less Process” guidelines for archival processing, and DACS and EAD for digital encoding of manuscript and archival finding aids;
Knowledge of best practices concerning the conservation and preservation of archival collections;
Knowledge of digital preservation standards;
Knowledge of EAD and XML, including writing and maintaining XSL style sheets;
Commitment and ability to work effectively with diverse populations;
Superior oral and written communication skills;
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills;
Knowledge of the history of the United States and of the State of Arkansas;
Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing best practices concerning the arrangement and descriptions of archival collections;
Demonstrate a record of designing projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion.
