The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision as they become the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.

Based in Wellington, Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision is the audiovisual archive of Aotearoa New Zealand. With more than 800,000 items spanning over 120 years of Aotearoa New Zealand’s sound and moving image history, the collection includes film and television, sound and radio recordings.

“Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision sees the DPC as an alliance of caregivers and knowledge holders of digital materials,” says Daniel Eady, Manager Digital Delivery for Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision. “Through these principals we can extend the community to have a greater understanding of the principles of a sustainable digital legacy.”

The DPC’s Head, Australasia and Asia-Pacific Robin Wright said: “We are very excited to welcome Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision from Aotearoa New Zealand to the local DPC community. Ngā Taonga plays an important role in preserving the unique and diverse cultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand for future generations and they are the 20th member of the DPC in the Australasian and Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to working with the team in Wellington and Avalon Motutawa to exchange knowledge, expertise, and good practice in digital preservation.”

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
