Greetings, DLF!

The Software Preservation Network (SPN) Metadata Working Group is pleased
to release an update to the Software Metadata Recommended Format (SMRF)
Guide. As with the first SMRF release, SMRF 1.1.0 provides an adaptable
framework to describe a range of software types to support discovery,
access, and reuse in libraries, museums, archives, and repositories, and it
also brings some key updates:

   -

Updated layout for an easier scanning and reading experience
   -

Case studies section that provides contextual metadata examples for
   specific software items
   -

Expanded usage notes with descriptions that include how SMRF elements
could support five defined use case categories: Execution and Emulation,
   Discoverability, Preservation, Administrative, and Citation

You can find a link to the SMRF Guide on the SPN website:

A sincere thank you to our community and reviewers for all their feedback
on this document.

Our best,

The SPN Metadata Working Group
