Management at Columbia University Law Library
*Michael Santangelo,* Deputy Director of Collection Management at BookOps
*Annmarie Zell, *Director at NYU Law Library

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, common pressures faced by all types of
libraries included shrinking materials budgets, higher demands for
collaborative study space over stacks, and more prolific digital options.
In this program, three panelists will discuss how their technical services
departments have transformed in recent years and their experiences adapting
to these changes. Topics will include: changes in how physical resources
are acquired and maintained, transforming staff job descriptions,
collaborations and shared print collections with other institutions, and
the challenges associated with each.

*Gilda Chiu-Ousland* is the Head of the Finance, Acquisitions, and Resource
Management unit at the Columbia Law Library, which is responsible for all
print and electronic acquisitions as well as services and supplies needed
for the library’s day-to-day operations. She also oversees the library’s
budget, both for collections and personnel. Gilda is involved in a number
of professional organizations, such as the American Association of Law
Libraries (AALL) and the American Library Association (ALA).

*Michael Santangelo* is the Deputy Director of Collection Management at
BookOps, the technical services collaboration for the New York Public
Library and the Brooklyn Public Library. Since starting as a children’s
materials selector back in 2005 for Brooklyn, he has had various positions
working in collection development and technical services, and his work has
ranged from database subscriptions to book leasing to periodical renewals
to eBook platform management and lastly to collections budgeting.
Currently, he serves on the Library Reads' Board of Directors and was
previously the co-chair of ALA CORE's Public Libraries Technical Services
Interest Group.

*Annmarie Zell* is the Director of the NYU Law Library and Assistant Dean
for Library Services. In this role, she oversees the operations of the
library and its services to the NYU Law School community. Annmarie is an
active member of professional law library associations including the
American Association of Law Libraries and the Society of Law Library
Directors. Before becoming a law librarian, Annmarie was a practicing
attorney for the Securities & Exchange Commission and the U.S. Customs
Service. She is a member of the State Bars of New York and Connecticut.
