The Imaging Specialist and Digital Projects Coordinator will support the University Libraries’ priority to provide open access to the University of South Dakota’s cultural heritage collections that advance teaching, learning, and scholarship. Reporting to the Head of the Digital Imaging Lab, Digital Library & Photographs, the position is responsible for imaging processes, managing imaging and digital library workflows, executing quality assurance, conducting original and complex cataloging, and ensuring timely service for both campus and public imaging requests.

Specific responsibilities include:

Managing digital imaging and digital library workflows.

Performing quality control, metadata creation, post-processing, and derivative files creation.

Performing digitization and imaging in a rapid capture environment utilizing scanners and cameras such as the PhaseOne iXH for patron requests and digital library projects while adhering to the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials.

Uploading files into the libraries’ storage systems.

Providing reference and research services for users of photograph collections.

Processing and describing photograph collections.

Cataloging in CONTENTdm.

Supervising student assistants and volunteers.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum qualifications include:

Formal education and training in photography, imaging, or related field and/or equivalent photography experience.

Demonstrated expertise with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Bridge and/or Capture One Pro or Capture One CH.

Proficiency with MacOS.

Evidence of strong attention to detail, meeting deadlines, employing effective time management, working collaboratively, and strong customer service skills.

 

Additional knowledge, skills and abilities include:

Experience ensuring the proper handling of cultural heritage materials.

Evidence of implementing quality control measures.

Demonstrated proficiency using image conformance software such as Golden Thread.

Understanding of and experience applying the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials.

Use of Dublin Core metadata standards, CONTENTdm digital library software, and DuraCloud digital asset storage or comparable experiences.

Demonstrated proficiency with medium format cameras.
