Dear colleagues,

We’re excited to let you know that our online petition<https://www.ala.org/CFApps/epetition/index.cfm?pid=94056031653D49BA> to form an ACRL Privacy Literacy Discussion Group reached the minimum number of signatures in less than one day!

The next step is for the ACRL Board of Directors to consider our proposal<https://docs.google.com/document/d/19mU8Fk3_kyPULUH8cGROin6T4t2c9VRzXp1K6yQZqXs/edit?usp=sharing> at the 2024 American Library Association Annual Conference in June. If the ACRL Board approves the establishment of this Discussion Group, the group will have a site and email list created on ALA Connect<https://connect.ala.org/home>, which we plan to make visible to both members and non-members.

If you signed the petition, THANK YOU!

If you’d like to continue to receive information about the proposed ACRL Privacy Literacy Discussion Group, please give us your preferred email address via this Google Form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd64YgHhZU-Oyc-IWlPlPWfdkfvMWC5Buo4UK_h_FeHZTD1nw/viewform?usp=sf_link>. If the discussion group is formed and an email list is created, we’ll add you to it! You won’t hear from us again unless you opt in. 🙂 Note: If you signed the petition, you don’t need to fill out this Google Form — we’ll keep you in the loop!

Questions? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Subject: Sign the petition to form an ACRL Privacy Literacy Discussion Group
Dear colleagues,

We are writing to invite you to sign a petition in support of forming a new Privacy Literacy Discussion Group within the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). To form the discussion group, we need the support of at least 25 ACRL members. Will you sign today?

Sign the online petition.<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.ala.org_CFApps_epetition_index.cfm-3Fpid-3D94056031653D49BA&d=DwMF-g&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=Y6MtceV349l-3E8sf5pidXTGHdkT5OB0faAaOP_geMA&m=xJ83TuVj98evQgmBkRtp4Etexnsj-h4xTssOGyZychdXpKSsJYXTVGPNEqWummr0&s=ZYliWapf7BKVPDfYmUkz2S-ombcK_7d8IgaJ6wLywlU&e=>

You must be a current member of ACRL to sign the petition. Please forward this invitation to any other ACRL colleagues who may be interested!

The proposed discussion group would advocate for privacy literacy as a key component of information literacy and promote educator self-efficacy around teaching privacy literacy in both formal and informal contexts. See the proposal for the group’s charge, rationale for its creation, and how it fits into ACRL’s discussion group landscape.

If formed, group membership would be open to all ACRL members. Activities might include meetings or conference programs at the American Library Association Annual Conference or LibLearnX or the ACRL Conference (open to conference registrants), as well as ACRL online discussion forums<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.ala.org_acrl_conferences_elearning_onlinediscussionforums&d=DwMF-g&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=Y6MtceV349l-3E8sf5pidXTGHdkT5OB0faAaOP_geMA&m=xJ83TuVj98evQgmBkRtp4Etexnsj-h4xTssOGyZychdXpKSsJYXTVGPNEqWummr0&s=wSKQ9PSVHEnEYtmsXQ7J-G5pJ0-RwLjS1tFQexPDSh8&e=> (free and open to all).

As the originators of this proposal, we would serve as the group’s initial co-convenors. After the discussion group’s first year, we’d seek new co-conveners with overlapping terms of two years each (for example, one co-convener with a 2025–2027 term and another co-convener with a 2026–2028 term).

Questions? Trouble accessing the petition? Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
