**Associate Dean of University Libraries

Seton Hall University Library seeks an active and engaged Associate Dean to
carry out the mission and vision of the Libraries through work as part of an
administrative team in providing leadership, direction and oversight for
planning and the operation of the Libraries and its faculty, staff, services
and collections. The Associate Dean will work closely with
the Dean to develop programmatic and organizational initiatives to enhance the
services and collections. She/he will contribute individual
skills and expertise as needed in order to achieve the goals and objectives
set by the organization. Motivates, listens, communicates
and generally oversees the work of all Library functions, with a proven
ability to analyze, follow through, and help make workflows and services more
efficient, particularly in the use of new tools and technologies.
This position will: act as an administrative liaison to
University IT and for purposes of internal technology planning, coordination,
and implementation in all areas applying knowledge of trends and emerging
technologies with attention to operational implications and details; gather,
assess, and analyze data at a high level; coordinate Library activities by
connecting often disparate areas of work and initiatives and facilitate the
smooth and effective functioning of library units; assist the Dean with
communicating Library goals and policies; oversee policy and practices related
to contracts, purchasing, licensing and related items; monitor and help plan
for building issues; provide oversight of the budget and report regularly to
the Dean; be highly involved with supervision, evaluation and timesheets;
assist the Dean with donor relations and stewardship issues, regular written
communications to Library faculty and staff and to the
broader college community and represent the Dean externally and internally as
needed. This position is an essential partner to the Dean
of University Libraries in elevating the role of the Libraries and the
workflows and practices of the Library faculty and its
staff. Firm, patient, professional leadership and
communication are essential, as is consistent follow-through, guided by the
plans, goals, and objectives of the University Libraries.
Under the leadership of a new Dean, the University Libraries recently
completed a new Strategic Plan that in many ways instantiates the University's
academic ambitions and articulates the role the Libraries will play in the
greater social, ethical, and democratic goods that are embodied in Seton
Hall's new Mission and Strategic Plan: to be "at the heart
of Seton Hall's intellectual ambitions and the first source for scholarship
and information where students' needs are the library's top priority, faculty
find the resources essential for their teaching and research, and students
graduate with the realization that the library is
indispensable." With approximately 700,000 volumes and a
robust offering of databases to support over 80 graduate programs (17
doctoral) and a similar number of undergraduate majors, Seton Hall University
Libraries are poised to grow strategically and reshape its services and
collections as an active partner to the exciting developments at the
University.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or
similarly appropriate/equivalent advanced degree is required.
A second graduate degree strongly preferred (a doctorate preferred) in a field
of relevance to the Seton Hall curriculum or the responsibilities of the
position.
A minimum of three to five years supervisory and management experience with
professional personnel and library budgets, strongly preferred in an academic
or research library environment; demonstrated collaborative and team-oriented
management approach and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic
environment at all levels with an inclusive leadership style.
Demonstrated experience with/knowledge of current library technologies and
trends and experience with using, selecting, guiding and shaping library
technologies and applications.
Demonstrated record of successful implementation, completion, and follow up to
typical contemporary academic library projects in a leadership role.
Evidence of superior oral and written communication skills, superior
analytical and problem-solving skills.
Record of participation and/or contribution in library professional
organizations.
Must be proficient in the use of standard office software such as word
processing, spreadsheets, and email.
