GeoConnections is pleased to invite you to a webcast on geospatial data archiving and preservation.
English Webinar: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 – 1:30-3:00 PM (Eastern Daylight Time)
French Webinar: Wednesday, March 27, 2013 – 1:30-3:00 PM (Eastern Daylight Time)
Webinar Overview
Geospatial data can be expensive to acquire, complex to manage and cumbersome to store. In addition, geospatial data can grow continuously or be dynamic, sometimes changing rapidly over short periods of time. The legacy value of geospatial data is not always recognized at the time of creation, and often the full scope of archiving and preserving geospatial data is not well understood by data producers. As a result, it can be both daunting and difficult to adopt a systematic and successful archiving and preservation regime. However, if well managed, geospatial data can be a valuable and lasting resource with a high potential for reuse over time that is well worth the investment of adequate archiving and preservation. Improved operational policy for geospatial data archiving and preservation has been identified as a requirement for a complete and sustainable national spatial data infrastructure for Canada. Under contract with Hickling Arthurs Low Corporation, GeoConnections is developing an Geospatial Data Archiving and Preservation Primer to fill this need.
This webinar will highlight good practices in digital data archiving and introduce you to the contents of the Primer, including the components of a generic digital data archiving and preservation operational framework. The session will close with a question and answer period where you will be welcome to pose questions to the presenters.

Webinar Summary and Conclusions
