Hello Michelle,
I'm a new member and represent the Property Records Industry Association. I have skimmed the document and, clearly, most folks in NDSA are dealing with more complicated preservation issues than we are at PRIA. Our goal is to preserve bitonal TIFF and PDF/A files forever. Microfilm has the solution we have used but, "the times they are a changin'".
In our community a significant factor that has contributed to our records preservation difficulties is getting the people in charge to make records preservation a continuing priority. In an elected office (county recorder), providing good customer service is important while maintaining your custodial responsibilities as the "keeper of the record" is assumed. We need a greater focus on educating the folks at the management level about their preservation responsibilities and to be prepared to pass that knowledge on to their successors. Often, people, not technology, are our biggest problem.
I know that the need for education is a thread throughout your agenda document but the people I'm speaking of are not passionate about records management. Public service or setting policy maybe but they are, too often not deep or technical, thinkers. Making them understand the depth and breadth of the responsibility they are taking on as the elected custodian of the record is what we at PRIA are working on.

Subject: Comment on the Draft 2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship
Dear NDSA,
Please find attached the draft version of the 2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship. This research and action agenda has been written by the Coordinating Committee and the working group co-chairs and reflects the thoughtful and detailed conversations that the working groups had about what digital preservation issues are most pressing.
The document outlines the challenges and opportunities in digital preservation and offers inspiration and guidance and suggest potential directions and areas of inquiry for research and future work in digital stewardship. The _Agenda_ is written to provide funders and other decision-makers with insight into emerging technological trends, gaps in digital stewardship capacity, and key areas for development.
The comment period for this draft version of the 2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship will end on May 21, 2013. Please send your suggestions or comments to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or to this listserv ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).
The leadership group will revise the document after the comment period and will launch the finalized document at the Digital Preservation 2013 meeting on July 23, 2013.
