Cornell University's [Mann Library](http://mannlib.cornell.edu) is looking for
a standout Web Developer who is enthusiastic and passionate about building
modern web applications. Under the direction of the Head of
Mann Library Information Technology Services (Mann ITS), the Web Developer
will join a team of user experience developers, public service librarians, and
content specialists to create and deliver high-quality,innovative web-based
experiences meeting the educational and research needs of Cornell students,
faculty, staff, and diverse additional stakeholders. The
Web Developer conceptualizes, designs, prototypes, develops, tests, and
iteratively improves highly usable web applications exemplifying best
practices in object-oriented programming, security and performance, and
relevant supporting technologies.
This appointment is a benefits-eligible, two-year, full time term position
with the possibility of extension.
**Qualifications**
* Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination
* Expert level knowledge of HTML 5, CSS, and JavaScript
* Seasoned implementer of MVC web frameworks, preferably Rails
* Adept at leveraging and integrating off-the-shelf and open source technologies, and identifying when and how customized solutions must be developed
* Skilled in integrating real-time information feeds, local and distributed databases, content repositories, APIs, and other web services into web applications
* Demonstrated ability to develop, assess, and iteratively improve web applications - emphasizing security, performance and reliability
* Experience developing web interfaces for all major browsers and in-depth knowledge of their behaviors and rendering challenges
* Advanced knowledge of development productivity tools (e.g., Git and Jira)
* Experience working with teams following agile software development methodologies
* Proficient in effectively communicating ideas and conceptual design rationales visually, verbally, and in writing, with user advocacy a constant priority
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience or specialization in one or more of the following areas:
* Knowledge of user-centered design methodologies and practices
* Ability to conceptualize and define functional specifications using tools such as Balsamiq, Omnigraffle, or Visio
* Familiarity with Bootstrap or Foundation
* Experience with Drupal or WordPress
* Education and/or work experience in subject domains such as agriculture, life sciences, or social sciences
