Smith College Special Collections is looking for a Digital Archivist! This full time, permanent position reflects common needs in a medium-to-large repository: digital records accessioning, description and arrangement, systems integration, and project management. Come work with engaged colleagues towards a common mission, with extraordinary materials, situated in a beautiful new library building at one of top 20 liberal arts colleges in the United States.
Smith College Special Collections, staffed with an average of 20 FTEs, is home to 30,000 linear ft. of archival material, over 50,000 rare books, and over 30 TB of data. We collect and make accessible the records of grassroots feminist organizations and individuals, particularly organizations interested in anti-carceral feminism, environmental justice, advocacy for sex workers and other areas outlined in our collection development strategy. Other areas of strength include women’s educational history, institutional records, and rare books across literature, poetry, artists books, botanical and science history and so much more.
We are committed to an expansion of pre-custodial community collaboration, ethical and transparent work with all stakeholders, and continuing / expanding a feminist cultural practice in the workplace. Smith College Special Collections is still developing better digital content management protocols. We’re looking for candidates who are generative, can move processes forward, can ask for help when needed, and are eager to help strengthen our culture of digital stewardship in the department.
