Position Description 

The Ohio State University Libraries promotes innovative research and creative expression, advances effective teaching, curates and preserves information essential for scholarship and learning at Ohio State, and shares knowledge and culture with the people of Ohio, the nation, and the world. We are on a mission to build digital library platforms that preserve and provide access to our unique and distinctive digital materials and scholarly records. It's an ambitious goal, and we need a creative web developer to join our team.  

As a Digital Library Web Developer, you will be a member of the Application Development &amp; Operations (AD&amp;O) team in the IT Division of the University Libraries. You will primarily write code, develop tests, collaboratively deploy code, and maintain applications, including Digital Collections, Special Collections Registry, Discover, and the Libraries website. Our team uses Agile frameworks, promotes a DevOps culture, and aspires to continuous delivery. Our tool set is varied and evolving, and currently includes Node.js, Vue.js, Elasticsearch, Ruby, PHP, and Docker. We are currently engaged in containerizing and migrating our specialized systems to Amazon Web Services.

Required Qualifications 


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience 


4+ years of experience in web development 


Experience developing with server-side application frameworks (e.g. Ruby on Rails) and modern front-end JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Vue.js) 


Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL) 


Experience using source code management tools, such as Git 


Desired Qualifications 


Experience with application containerization (e.g. Docker) 


Experience with search and indexing engines (e.g. Elasticsearch, Solr) 


Familiarity with specialized open-source Library platforms (e.g. Samvera, Open Journal Systems, DSpace)
