IT Systems Analyst and Coordinator

Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS)

Job Type

Full-time (37.5 hrs/week) permanent position

About Us

Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS) is a not-for-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to support Ontario’s publicly assisted colleges and their libraries. We have a strong reputation for service excellence and the college libraries trust us to deliver services and expertise in line with our mandate to create efficiencies, cost savings, and capacity across the system. Our reputation would not have been built, nor could it be maintained, without the skills, knowledge, and experience of the extraordinary members of the OCLS team.

Your Opportunity

OCLS’s current IT infrastructure supports a wide range of services that drive our operations and service delivery to the colleges. It consists of a managed service environment, a small on-prem network, and SaaS support by several third-party providers. We are looking for an energetic, self-directed, and multi-talented IT System Analyst and Coordinator to support and be accountable for the operation of this unique environment.

As the IT Systems Analyst and Coordinator, you are eager to interact with the OCLS team, our managed service partners, application providers, and our college clients to ensure that our networks and systems are operating effectively to meet our operational and service delivery goals. In addition to supporting and maintaining our infrastructure, as a member of our small team, you will be involved in the planning and implementation of technical and business solutions and will collaborate with the team on development and troubleshooting of systems and services.

This is an excellent career opportunity for an outgoing, customer-focused systems and network professional who, in addition to having exemplary system administrator skills, is able to understand and translate business needs into practical technical solutions and strategies. As a key member of the OCLS team, you’ll work with remarkable individuals and colleagues who support each other to meet the system and service requirements of our customers.

Your Responsibilities

Serve as the primary system administrator for the OCLS IT environment, including oversight of implementation, configuration, testing, monitoring, and maintenance of IT systems.

Work with our hosting partner to support Windows and Linux servers, switches, firewalls, and other equipment as needed, manage backups, track hosted and on-prem server activity, set up development servers, and proactively maintain server and system integrity.

Manage the relationships with OCLS’s third party hosting, system support and application providers, assist with problem resolution and scope system enhancements.

Oversee software upgrades, patch applications, and conduct testing to ensure reliability of library system(s), applications and the OCLS infrastructure.

Participate in system and application problem-solving efforts involving service leads and cross- departmental expertise

Understand and prioritize stakeholder and service leads needs; translate their requests into application and/or system-based functionality.

Address technical problems and recommend approaches to streamline and integrate processes and systems to improve overall efficiency and security.

Recommend, design, and implement new IT initiatives and infrastructure upgrades.

Participate in the development of internal support documentation and reports to assist staff and management with decision-making, training, and system performance management.

Stay current with developments in systems administration technology and SaaS and recommend ways for OCLS to improve our usage of these tools.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The qualifications listed below are highly desirable but not necessarily mandatory. You are invited to demonstrate how your education skills, knowledge, and experience would best fit this position in your letter of application.

Work experience and training:
