Job Description

The Digital Initiatives &amp; Scholarly Communication Librarian leads the law school in the creation, curation and long-term preservation of digital projects and collections. This librarian provides vision and guidance for the law school’s institutional repository, setting priorities that respond to the needs of the law school community. This librarian also has a leading role in the development of the law school and law library websites.

This librarian supervises one full-time staff member, the Digital Initiatives &amp; Scholarly Communication Specialist, and is part of the library’s Collection Services &amp; Digital Initiatives Department. Core responsibilities of the position include:


Management of Digital Commons @ Boston College Law School, the law school’s institutional repository


Working with faculty members to support and promote their scholarship


Supporting and advising Boston College Law Review in all areas related to digital publishing


Contributing to the development of the law library and law school websites


Developing and maintaining digital special collections that document the history of the law school

Grade: 3RD

 

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $67,100 to $83,850; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

 

Requirements

A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association is required, along with some experience in an academic library setting.

 

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualities:


Strong technical skills and willingness to learn and adopt new technologies


Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail


Ability to balance multiple priorities and manage projects


Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion


Demonstrated ability to work with all members of the law school community in a friendly, courteous, and professional fashion


Enthusiasm for contributing to a collaborative work environment


Experience, coursework or knowledge in the following areas is required:


Knowledge of trends, issues, and library services related to open access and scholarly publishing


Technical, policy, and copyright issues related to institutional repositories and scholarly communication


Metadata standards and metadata creation


Analyzing, using, and transforming metadata in a batch or automated fashion (e.g. using XSLT, Microsoft Excel, or MarcEdit)


Experience, coursework or knowledge in one or more of the following areas is preferred:


Digital preservation and curation


Digitization standards and practices


Analyzing data and creating reports


Web technologies, including XML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript


Supervisory experience is preferred
