Join the Hesburgh Libraries of Notre Dame as our NEW faculty Collection Metadata Integrity & Management Librarian

Who We’re Looking For

A metadata librarian with a successful track record as an individual contributor, and also as a team collaborator, to gather, wrangle, enrich, and remediate metadata with and for stakeholders across the program.
A knowledgeable metadata practitioner who respects the value of strong local practice and adherence to national standards, and is dedicated to harnessing the power of tools inside and outside of the Integrated Library System to help improve the integrity of collection metadata through remediation.
A problem solver who is able to access and gather metadata, and then use additional technical skills to enrich and enhance metadata (for description and access) across disparate library collections.
A colleague who is interested in contributing to a collaborative, cross-unit programmatic work culture.

What You’ll Be Working On as a Unit Team Member

Providing colleagues and other stakeholders timely and accurate metadata payloads or projects, like batch-loading records, performing global changes on system metadata records, and working with curated metadata, like the A-Z database lists in the library CMS and LibGuides.
Gathering, prioritizing, and manipulating existing Collection metadata (for description and access) to help ensure readiness for migration to a future system.
Building out our list of shared print partners by supporting the data reporting needs of each initiative with a cross-unit team and external stakeholders.

Qualifications That We Require

MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or non-U.S. equivalent, or equivalent terminal degree required. Degree must be completed prior to the candidate's starting date of employment.
Articulated evidence of significant experience with data wrangling and manipulation of library collection metadata (for description and access).
Clear evidence of experience reflecting direct knowledge and work experience creating metadata, e.g., original (MARC) cataloging and/or other (XML-based) metadata work.

Ways to Catch our Eye

Tell us what you know about using tools like OpenRefine, Excel, and various text editors, especially using them in a library environment, and how you used them to improve collection metadata in some significant way.
Highlight your knowledge of tools like MarcEdit and Oxygen and any experience you’ve had with coding or scripting to gather metadata.
Also, your experience with standards, e.g., RDA, MARC21 formats, AACR2r, LCSH, LCC, DC, EAD, VRA core, etc. and how you stay abreast of changes in the field.
Share the applications or systems you have used or prefer to use for metadata work, even if they are different from what we currently use. In our environment, we currently use:
OCLC Cataloging and Metadata Subscription services, e.g., Connexion, Collection Manager, Record Manager
Ex Libris products, e.g., Aleph, SFX/CDI, MARCit!, and Primo
CORAL (for ERM)
data manipulation tools, e.g. MarcEdit, Oxygen, PCPad, Genie, etc.
work support/communication applications, e.g., GitHub, Jira, Google Suite, Slack etc.

Highlight your work with any national standards, metadata programs, organizations, or initiatives, e.g., PCC, NACO, BIBCO, CONSER or SACO, Wikidata, anything to do with NISO or NASIG, etc.
