Position Summary
Hekman Library serves as the academic library for Calvin University and Calvin Theological Seminary and this position supports the educational mission of both institutions. As a member of the library’s Management Team, the Library Technology Manager provides leadership by orchestrating a suite of third-party information resources with a collaborative and user-focused approach that serves students, faculty, and other constituents on-site and online. Responsibilities include integrating and enhancing various off-site and on-site systems to streamline the user experience. These digital strategies include local and remote digital and institutional repositories, third-party research databases, journal archives, and catalogs, along with evaluating new technological resources and opportunities. Early projects will include a review of internal and external system solutions, prioritizing an institutional repository, library catalog/ILS migration, and digitization projects which enhance access, meet strategic institutional priorities, and support Calvin’s sesquicentennial in 2026.
Qualifications
This position requires a Master of Library Science or other relevant degree (Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and accompanying experience); Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in managing library systems, preferably in an academic library.
Demonstrated ability to work in teams with diverse perspectives, ideas, and backgrounds. Demonstrated mentoring and teaching abilities. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills. Demonstrated organizational, project management, and communication skills.
Knowledge of web technologies and standards:
-Linux and Windows operating systems
-Proxy servers and authentication technologies
-Database design, administration, and reporting
-Common programming and scripting languages
-Metadata standards
-Content management systems
