The University of Waterloo Library seeks a creative and collegial individual for the position of System Analyst (2 year contract). Reporting to the Head, Digital Initiatives, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for migrating the digital repository, which uses Islandora, to a more current instance. Islandora is primarily used for the Waterloo Digital Library (WDL), our public access tool to access digitized items from Special Collections and Archives. The position is responsible for the systems administration, application management, configuration and support of Waterloo’s digital repositories, digital scholarship and related services. In collaboration with other Digital Initiatives and library staff, they design, implement and advance the integration of digital repository platforms and services to support the local digital collections needs of the University of Waterloo Library. 

The Digital Initiatives department supports proprietary and open source software, both locally hosted and cloud-based, supporting research, open access, scholarly communication, and digital scholarship projects. The department works closely with Library Technology and Facilities Services (LTFS) and campus Information Systems and Technology (IST) to bring projects into fruition and ensure ongoing support and maintenance.  

The Library supports many campus priorities including student wellness, sustainability, and the development of Indigenous initiatives, recognizing the responsibility of truth and reconciliation as outlined in the 94 Calls To Action.  

The University of Waterloo Library is a member of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI). The Library is transitioning towards enhanced collaboration on a shared library platform through the OCUL Collaborative Futures project. 

Qualifications: 


Post-secondary education in a computing discipline together with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  


Experience with Islandora or similar digital repositories  


Experience with application of APIs  



Experience with Linux environments  


Experience migrating/implementing open-source solutions   


Experience developing and integrating open-source software components with Java, Apache Foundation platforms, XML, RESTful APIs   


A strong commitment to high-quality service  


Demonstrated ability to independently, as well as collaboratively, plan, coordinate, and implement effective information technology projects, including managing multiple and simultaneous projects  



Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on projects across a wide range of departments and for varying audiences   


Demonstrate strong communications, analytical, and planning skills in order to provide appropriate problem solving and expert consultation services to Library departments and groups so they can match staff and user needs with available and appropriate technology  


Familiarity with Fedora based systems, SOLR  


Ability to work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision  


 

Assets 


Academic library or higher education experience 


Familiarity with Library Services Platforms 


Knowledge of PHP based web content management systems (ie. Drupal) 


 

Compensation 

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience qualifications within the USG 9 salary level. Hiring range: $63,106 - $78,883 based on 2021/2022 salary scales.
