Apply to join our Cataloging and Metadata team at Western Carolina University’s Hunter Library! The person in this position will perform original and copy cataloging of physical books and will create and edit metadata for our recently migrated digital collections. The person in this position will participate in cross-training for various formats, engaging with others in the unit. Required skills include the ability to catalog in MARC and non-MARC standards. We welcome early-career applicants who would like to develop their skills and experience in cataloging.
Western Carolina University (WCU) is a public university that is part of the University of North Carolina system. WCU is situated in the Cullowhee valley, centrally located along the Tuckasegee River in the Appalachian Mountains of southwestern North Carolina. This is the Cherokee homeland, and the Qualla Boundary, seat of the Eastern Band of Cherokee, is located about 20 miles downstream from the campus area. It is the only public university established on the site of a named Cherokee town and a traditional sacred place. The area is about an hour west of Asheville, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the southern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the two most-visited parks in the National Park System in 2021. The area has a vibrant culture and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities.
