Subject: Software Metadata Implementation Workshop
Dear SPN Members,
The Software Preservation Metadata Working Group (MWG) has been working on developing a workshop to facilitate and promote the usage of the Software Metadata Recommended Format (SMRF) Guide.
The workshop is designed to bring together a small cohort of metadata practitioners over the course of four monthly meetings to help each participant put SMRF into practice in their organization. Led by members of the MWG, by the end of the workshop each participant will become familiar with the SMRF Guide and its uses, identify a potential metadata-related problem at their organization that may be solved by using the SMRF Guide, and produce a work plan to put the SMRF Guide into action to help address their problem.
The MWG has tested the workshop design internally and is now inviting volunteers from the broader SPN community to participate in a second run-through of the workshop. Our aim is that this process will be collaborative and mutually beneficial, as volunteers will gain hands on experience with the SMRF Guide and have a potential course of action to solve a problem faced by their organization, while the MWG will have an opportunity to further refine the workshop design before offering the service to the broader software preservation community.
If you are interested in volunteering, please send a short statement of interest that includes 2-3 sentences about your proposed use case as well as links to your institution’s collection and repository to Dianne Dietrich ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>). If you have any questions about the workshop or volunteering, please feel free to reach out to the MWG.
Sincerely,
Elena Colón-Marrero
