Hi all,
Sharing the recording from a recent webinar that may be of interest to
those working on AI policy or governance at their institutions.
Terentia <https://terentia.io/> hosted Responsible AI for Museums: From
Policy to Practice
<https://terentia.io/webinars/responsible-museum-ai-policy/?utm_campaign=333321164-Responsible-AI-for-Museums-061726&utm_source=code4lib&utm_medium=Recording>,
featuring Nik Honeysett (Director & CEO, Balboa Park Online Collaborative
<https://bpoc.org/>) and Neal Bilow (Founder & CEO, Terentia), with 290
attendees from across the GLAMP sector.
A few data points from the session stood out:
-
Out of 203 attendees polled, only 15% have a formal AI policy that's
currently in use.
-
Of 178 respondents, 74 said their institutions are already using AI for
staff productivity and administrative tasks, with OCR, marketing, and image
recognition also common use cases.
-
63% of respondents said a human always reviews AI output before it's
used externally or stored in a system of record.
The takeaway: many institutions are already using AI in practice, but
formal governance hasn't caught up. The discussion covered what that gap
means in practice — documentation, staff support, review processes, and how
institutional values get reflected in actual AI use, not just policy
documents.
If your institution is thinking through AI policy, governance, or
implementation, this recap is worth a watch: Watch the recap
