Vishal Patel (Stanford University), Mackenzie Salisbury (Northwestern University), and I are inviting you to a Zoom meeting (this Thursday) on the topic of generative-AI in libraries...
Recent librarian discourse reflects mixed feelings about AI. Many librarians recognize AI as a tool already affecting research, teaching, access, and information work, while also raising concerns about privacy, bias, labor, intellectual freedom, vendor dependency, and reliability. A recent survey of 311 librarians across 31 countries reflects this complexity. [1]
This forum will offer space for librarians to share concerns, local experiences, and possible ways forward. Rather than assuming a single stance toward AI, the discussion will welcome a range of perspectives, including experimentation, skepticism, policy development, refusal, and pedagogical engagement.
Agenda: Vishal, Eric, and Mackenzie will begin by briefly sharing their backgrounds and experiences with AI in library work. We will then pose open ended questions to the audience and invite discussion. The forum will conclude with a synthesis of recurring themes and possible next steps for librarians and professional communities.
I believe the attachment includes the connection details. See you there?
