Under the supervision of the University Archivist/Special Collections
Librarian, the Digital and Archives/Special Collections Manager is responsible
for creating Copley Library's digital collections. This
includes planning, scheduling, implementing, and establishing production work
flows for digital projects and supervising and training support
staff. He/she must collaborate with librarians on digital
projects. The Digital and Archives/Special Collections Manager participates in
the creation of documentation, finding aids, and web guides for print and
digital collections. He/she provides research assistance and monitors the
Archives/Special Collections Reading Room. This individual also assists with
the accessioning, arranging, processing, cataloging and preserving of archival
and special collections material. The Digital and
Archives/Special Collections Manager works Monday through Friday from 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the University Archives/Special Collections
Department. This employee works under the supervision of
the University Archivist/Special Collections Librarian.
This employee may supervise a staff member, graduate student or students while
working in the University Archives/Special Collections Department.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
1. General management of digital collections for
Archives/Special Collections and other digital library projects
* Responsible for general management of digitization projects
* Collaborates with the University Archives/Special Collections, Cataloging, IT Services and other library departments on digital projects
* Coordinates and supervises the planning, production, and preservation of the library's digital collections, especially those deemed to have enduring value or unique significance
* Provides input on logistics and resource allocation for creating digital collections
* Analyzes costs/benefits of using various digital collections management systems
* Documents standards, policies and best practices related to digital collections
* Works with University Archivist/Special Collections Librarian and Cataloging Department to devise and implement appropriate metadata schemes for digital collections
* Supervises staff and student assistants working on digital projects
* Oversees quality control of digital work
* Designs appropriate project websites, if necessary
2. Assists with Archives/Special Collections Work
* Aids with reference and research assistance for Archives/Special Collections Department
* Monitors Archives/Special Collections Reading Room
* Assists with accessioning, arranging, processing, and preserving archival collections
* Assists with cataloging and preserving Special Collections materials
3. Other duties as assigned
**Job Requirements**
* Bachelor's degree
* One year academic/research library, art library, archives or museum experience
* Supervisory experience
* Experience in digital scanning, image editing, and/or web page design
* Experience using a digital asset management system (e.g. Content Pro, CONTENTdm, DSpace)
**Preferred:**
* Bachelor's degree plus digital training
* 1-2 years of relevant experience in digital scanning, image editing, and/or web page design
* Knowledge of copyright, intellectual property and privacy laws
* Knowledge of digital content standards and metadata schema (e.g. Dublin Core, MARC, RDA, METS, EAD)
* Knowledge of digital asset management systems (e.g., ContentPro, CONTENTdm, DSpace)
* Knowledge of integrated library systems (e.g. Millennium, Voyager, Horizon)
* Experience cataloging with OCLC and the Millennium cataloging module
* Experience providing reference service in an archives or special collections environment
* Experience working in a secured environment
* Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information
* Knowledge of preservation standards and best practices
