Head of Library Systems

St. Edward's University Library invites applicants for the position of Head of
Library Systems. The Head of Library Systems will provide leadership in
creating new digital information services, including the continual evolution
and optimization of the library's web presence. To this end, the successful
candidate will use web design best practices to improve the library user
experience and will add value to library services and resources through APIs
and other software applications. The Head of Library Systems reports to the
Library Director and will work closely with librarians in Archives and Special
Collections, Technical Services, and Public Services. The position supervises
the Digital Services Manager position.

The organization seeks a creative and innovative individual, willing to try
new ideas to improve the patron experience in an environment that embraces
risk-taking and experimentation - where one's talents are refined and
developed as new skills are learned on the job. Initiative, independence and
the ability to be collaborative and communicative are critical to the
position. The successful candidate will add value to library services and
resources by providing technical leadership and implementing digital
initiatives in support of library users. The position
receives direction from the Library Director, but is required to perform tasks
and complete projects without structured guidelines while adhering to the
library's vision statement. This is a position for fast
professional growth, where one's accumulated experience can lead to career
advancement.

About the Library:

The St. Edward's Library building is currently undergoing renovation, expected
to be concluded in the summer of 2013. During construction, the library is
functioning predominantly as a virtual entity. In such an environment the Web
site is the mission critical manifestation of the library and its services.
The construction project offers a unique real-world experiment in the digital
realm, and its results will inform the library's future. The library has a
staff of 16. The collection consists of over 80,000 print
books and 100,000 eBooks as well as 25,000 ejournal
titles.

About St. Edward's University:

Founded in 1885 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Edward's University is
the premier private institution of higher learning in Austin. Enrolling
approximately 5,300 students, the university offers more than 90 academic
programs. In addition to the many programs designed for traditional
undergraduates, the university offers more than 15 undergraduate degree
programs designed for working adults and 11 masters degree programs. Over the
last two decades the university has doubled its enrollment and invested more
than $147 million in new campus facilities. US News & World Report has ranked
St. Edward's among the top regional universities in the West for nine
consecutive years, and peers identified St. Edward's as one of a handful of
"up-and-coming universities" in both 2010 and 2011. The university's newly
adopted strategic plan, Academic Distinctiveness and Global Preparedness,
reflects the university's commitment to prepare students for success in a 21st
century world increasingly shaped by globalization and ubiquitous technology.
Consistent with its Holy Cross heritage the university maintains a strong
focus on issues of social justice.
