To provide ongoing technical leadership and support to the Institutional
Repositories, Focus on Research faculty research profile service, Journal
Publishing Service, Open Conference Service and related initiatives. This
position has the primary technical responsibility for these various
undertakings. The incumbent installs, monitors and upgrades the various
software applications; ensures that the necessary infrastructure is in place;
and together with the Scholarly Communications Publishing Coordinator
librarian, works with involved students, faculty and staff. Duties include
initial testing and installation of software, ongoing performance monitoring,
troubleshooting and user support/training, developing local modifications to
code and new features. Incumbent reviews the revised open source code of
others, submits locally developed code, tests and debugs software; works with
related applications including integration with other institutional systems
such as other content repositories, the learning management system,
authentication, and identity management systems; undertakes special projects
to enhance services.
Education: University degree in computer science (or another relevant
discipline) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Strong programming skills in PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, and Perl;
solid database management experience in a UNIX environment; experience with
configuring and administering open source applications in a Linux server
environment. Experience in Python, Apache web servers configuration, and
working knowledge of xml, data format translation techniques, and web services
an asset. Familiarity with scholarly communication platforms such as
institutional repository software and open access publishing tools, and in
particular with DSpace, Fedora, and PKP applications, a strong asset.
Skills: Good oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal
skills with judgment and tact.
Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: $61,017 with an annual step progression to a
maximum of $78,031.
