SUMMARY
The Library Technology Consultant takes a leadership role in ensuring Texas
libraries are knowledgeable about and use library technology and related
library policies, services, and procedures to meet the needs of their
communities, with a special emphasis on small public libraries. The Technology
consultant also works closely with other agency staff to help manage and
promote digital literacy initiatives and related projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate a statewide program of continuing
education in
library technology and related topics, with a special emphasis on the
management of technology
in small libraries
Consult with Texas librarians, library boards and interested citizens on a
variety of library-related topics, with an emphasis on providing consulting on
technology issues, support, networking, and troubleshooting topics
Provide resources for assigned projects via agency web site, blog, and a
variety of social media
Serve as agency liaison for various initiatives and grants, including those
related to technology and digital literacy
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety
and standards of
conduct
Perform other duties as assigned
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in library or information science from an American Library
Association accredited program
Library work experience planning and/or delivering services to clients
Experience using a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office
applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and using social media and other
internet tools
Experience or coursework in web page creation or design
Experience in the design, production, and evaluation of training, training
materials or
bibliographic instruction
Knowledge of library issues and trends, including issues relating to library
technology, public access
computing and telecommunications
Ability to plan and manage continuing education projects including analysis of
outcomes data to
formulate conclusions and guide direction of future programs and services.
Ability to work well with individuals and groups both at TSLAC, as well as at
other organizations
around the state to realize statewide initiatives using new and existing
resources
Ability and desire to teach online and in-person and to speak before groups
Ability to take initiative in areas of responsibility as part of statewide
library development team
Ability to obtain Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM) certification within
two years of hire date
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Work experience as a professional librarian
Work experience or formal education in one or more of the following: adult
education,
continuing education, consulting, staff development, or technology support
Work experience managing library technology projects
Work experience managing technology networks, hardware, and security
Experience or formal education in one or more: automation planning, systems
analysis,
planning and evaluation, databases, data conversion, or resource sharing
Experience working in or with multiple types of libraries
Work experience with a variety of online tools and applications (e.g.
Facebook, web
content management systems, blogs, survey tools)
Experience with online meeting software and learning management systems (e.g.
GoToWebinar, WebEx, Adobe Connect, Moodle)
experience writing technical evaluations, procurement documents or planning
documents
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Submit complete college transcripts (undergraduate and graduate)
Submit portfolio of writing samples, training materials, or other online
resources or presentationsconducted
Applicants selected for interview will make a 15 minute presentation on a
technical subject at
the Texas State Library; the presentation may be videotaped
Approximately 30% travel by airplane and personal automobile required; some
evening & weekend work
Light lifting up to 15 lbs. required
SUPERVISION
None. Reports to Manager, Continuing Education & Consulting.
